GAA 125th Anniversary Celebrations

To mark the 125th anniversary of the Gaelic Athletic Association clubs across the country were encouraged to hold a series of events as part of the La na gClub to commemorate the associations 125th birthday.

As part of this initiative our celebrations began on the Friday 8th May with Mass in St. Mary’s Chapel, Corravacan in memory of all the deceased members and friends of the club. On Saturday 9th May we held our social night and made a number of presentations. Please refer to the ‘Social Night 2009’ album contained in the “Gallery”.

The celebrations continued on Sunday afternoon with the unveiling and blessing of the 125 anniversary plaque. The day included a tree planting ceremony which was planted by long serving stalwart Pat Brannigan. This was followed by the raising of a commemorative GAA 125 flag by another steadfast Gael Seamus Tate.

Unfortunately, due to the very inclement weather conditions leading up to the weekend the highly anticipated match between the 1996 Dr. Ward Cup Team v 2009 Team had to be cancelled.
