Our under 14 team travelled to St. Mellan’s Park to play Truagh B on Saturday 11th August and despite scoring an impressive 9-7 a strong and powerful Truagh B outfit ran out four points winners on a score-line Truagh B 7-17 Rockcorry 9-7.
The early stages of the match were patchy enough and there was little in the way of free-flowing football but when the game came to life it certainly proved to be a very entertaining with both teams displaying some fabulous skills that produced lovely passages of football and all players have to be commended for their efforts and enthusiasm that they showed.
The teams were level with 0-2 apiece after ten minutes and while we had a couple of chances to take the lead we failed to convert them before Truagh B hit a purple patch to notch over four points without reply to enjoy a 0-6 to 0-2 advantage after the first quarter. During the second period both teams shared a good deal of possession but it was Truagh’s ability to finish that ultimately proved the difference and notched up a further 3-2 to our 2-0 to leave the half time score 3-8 to 2-2 in favour of the boys wearing the red and black. While Truagh B started the better during the third and fourth quarters the game continued in a similar fashion and our lads showed plenty of spirit and fought to the final whistle but unfortunately they did not manage to close the gap and the game ended Truagh B 7-17 Rockcorry 9-7
