We played our third game of the Ulster club league competition on Sunday 20th February when we travelled to Armagh to play Silverbridge. Silverbridge opened the scoring on the first minute when they won possession from the throw-up and went on the attack instantly and notched over a fine point from play. Mark Daly equalised when he converted a free-kick on the 8th minute after Paul McKeown was brought down. A couple of minutes later Colin Quinn fired a sweet point following good work by Paul McKeown. Mark Daly notched over points on the 15th and 18th minute to open a three point gap. Unfortunately, the remaining minutes of the first half Silverbridge dictated the pace and took control of the game and scored five unanswered points to take a two point lead going in at the break, Silverbridge 0-6 Rockcorry 0-4.
When play resumed Silverbridge widened the gap on the 2nd minute when they pumped a long high ball into our goalmouth area and it fell nicely for their attacker and he blasted it past Jamie Smith. Mark McGuirk pulled one back with a wonderfully taken point but shortly afterwards Jamie Smith misjudged a long delivery and the corner forward tapped it into an empty net to open up a commanding 2-6 to 0-5 lead. They increased their advantage when they converted a free-kick on the 7th minute. We responded with points from Fergal McGeough and Mark Daly on the 8th and 11th minutes respectively and when Paul McKeown collected the ball on the 15th minute he rounded his opponent and rifled the ball past the Silverbridge goal-keeper to close the deficit back to three points. With still plenty of time remaining we appeared rejuvenated and the lads started to believe they could actually pull this game from the fire and attempted to wipe out the three point lead. However, that was not to be case and despite the lads best efforts we did not register another score while Silverbridge fire between the posts on the 20th minute to leave the final score Silverbridge 2-8 Rockcorry 1-7.
