Christmas is a time of celebration but it is also a time of giving and the local Rockcorry & Dartrey Community Alert committee certainly captured the essence of the festive season when they brought the magic and spirit of Christmas to life when they hosted their annual Senior Citizen’s party on Thursday 19th December in the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan.
In my opinion, Christmas is a wonderful time of the year and is a great opportunity to get the family and friends together to enjoy the festivities. Senior members, from our community, were invited to share in the community celebration and thankfully a large crowd gathered for what was a great social occasion and will make the festive season all the more memorable for everyone involved.
A superb meal was laid on by the Hotel and everyone tucked into a traditional turkey & ham dinner. The entertainment for the night was provided by the legendary Robert Brown who amazed the crowd with some fantastic music and good humour and there were also contributions from the audience who entertained the crowd with some splendid seasonal tunes that worked really well. Obviously, the highlight of the night was the appearance of the big rollie-pollie man in a red suit and hat with a long white beard – Santa Claus who handed out presents too everyone in attendance.
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the work of the Rockcorry & Dartrey Community Alert Committee who gave so much of their time and energy to organise the night. It is a huge commitment to raise money and make all the preparations but I imagine seeing everyone enjoying themselves last night makes it all worthwhile. Once again a massive well done the party was a great success and many thanks to the generosity and goodwill of the people from the parish and the support from local businesses who made donations towards the event.
