“Rock Light up the Darkness”
Our senior team lit up a damp and dismal Sunday evening with a very impressive ten-point win over Eire Og to progress to the semi-final stage of this year’s McGuigan Builders Intermediate Football championship. It was clear from the outset that the lads were fired up for this encounter as we dominated most of the play and at the end of the first moiety we had racked up 1-8 to their 0-4 to go in at the interval with a comfortable lead.
Two quick-fire goals and a couple of points at the start of the second half opened up a yawning gap of fifteen points that gave our team management the luxury of making a number of substitutions and at the end the final score Rockcorry 3-13 Eire Og 2-6 was announced over the sound system because you could not see the scoreboard due to the darkness, unless off course you brought along your night vision googles!!!
It was certainly a thoroughly deserved victory for the lads whose application over the hour was impressive. True, there was an element of good fortune to the two goals scored in the second half but it was no more than what we deserved. However, our victory was somewhat tarnished when team captain Noel Carroll had to be carried off the field with an ankle injury. Let’s hope he makes a speedy recovery and be fit to take his place against Tyholland.
Our prize for winning is a semi-final clash against Tyholland which takes place this Saturday evening (11th September) in Emyvale at 8pm. All club supporters are urged to get behind the team and show your support this weekend. Good luck lads.
