Last Tuesday (17th August) our minor team suffered the agony of a slender one point defeat in the division 3 league final against Emyvale on a score-line Rockcorry 2-14 Emyvale 2-15, but it was the nature of the defeat that makes it hard to accept. Throughout the game the lads worked so hard for each other and with eighteen minutes gone in the second half it seemed that we had done enough to earn a victory over a determined Emyvale side as we had a comfortable 2-13 to 0-11 lead. However, a sequence of outrageous refereeing decisions, that included two penalties, allowed Emyvale back into the game and ultimately denied our young lads the silverware. Unfortunately, these incidents overshadowed a thrilling encounter where both teams produced some fine football and we congratulate Emyvale on their victory.
On reflection, it was a courageous performance from our lads as they put in a brave effort but their dreams were crushed and they were left devastated through no fault of their own and to lose a final in that way is demoralising. I know it will be no consolation that you were the better team on the day, but you have done yourselves and your club extremely proud, and all I can say is keep your heads high and be ready for the next one.
