Our under 12 footballers travelled to O’Neill Park to play Cremartin in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league Division 2B Shield semi-final on Saturday 17th August and the old cliché that ‘football was the real winner’ is certainly very apt because both sets of players produced a fabulous hour’s entertainment as they served up a thrilling encounter and deserve great credit.
We played with the wind advantage in the first half and the game was evenly contested with both teams displaying enormous amounts of enthusiasm and effort and at the end of a hectic twenty minutes Cremartin enjoyed a slender one point lead, leading 1-3 to 0-5. When play resumed Cremartin made a bright start and opened up a four point advantage but our heads didn’t drop and despite being down a couple of points the boys & girls battled hard and without doubt gave an inspired performance to move ahead by a single point. The final moments of the match was ‘thrill a minute’ madness as Cremartin threw the proverbial kitchen sink at us during the dying moments, and if I’m totally honest there were some heart stopping flashes, but they were determined to hold on and they secured the victory on a score-line Cremartin 2-5 Rockcorry 1-9.
Some great skills were on display during this highly enjoyable encounter and I have to report that there was fantastic support from parents who were there to encourage and cheer on all the boys and girls and from the side-lines and we look forward to the same level of support in the final. Well done everyone COME ON ROCK!
