Community Alert – Text Alert Information

To assist the Community and An Garda Síochána in the fight against crime the local community alert group are setting up a Text Alert System. This system has been set up in other areas around the county and has proved a huge success in combating and preventing crime.

Community Alert

Community Alert is about local people working together to improve the community and to promote the best quality of life for everyone in the area. They aim to do this by working in partnership with An Garda Síochána to prevent crime and make our community a safer place to live. Irrespective of how many Gardaí are stationed in our area they cannot be everywhere and they cannot see or hear everything. As a member of Community Alert, you can act as eyes and ears for An Garda Síochána, we can increase An Garda Síochána crime fighting abilities by watching out for each other and passing on information to the Gardaí. It is with this in mind that they are setting up a Text Alert System in the area.

How Community Text Alert Works

When An Garda Síochána are looking for the assistance of the community they make contact with a nominated person from the Community Alert Group who will then send a text message to the members of the community text alert group asking them to contact the Gardaí with any information.

If you wish to be a member of this text alert system and receive text alerts on your phone please provide your contact details (name, address and mobile phone number) to the local representatives Gerry Coyle or Pat McCormick.

You will then receive a text message any time there is an incident that the Gardaí are looking for information on. You will also be alerted to suspicious persons or vehicles in the area.

Mobile numbers provided will be used in the Text Alert System and will not be used for any other purpose and you may opt out at any time by contacting the local representatives.

What to do when you receive a text

You are simply asked to contact the Gardaí with any relevant information. For everyone’s safety NO other action should be taken. The Gardaí and the community Alert Group will NOT be responsible for the actions of individuals.
