Killeevan Tournament – Under 12
You have to hand it to the under 12 footballers! Whenever they played this year they have served up electrifying and exciting games and when they travelled to Killeevan, last Saturday 6th October, to play them in their tournament it was yet another breath-taking match between these two, evenly matched, sides and on this occasion it was the Killeevan players who celebrated at final whistle.
During the opening period things didn’t look overly promising for us as Killeevan got off to a flyer and edged into an early advantage but gradually we settled and found our feet and by the interval we trailed 2-2 to 2-1. At the change of ends we forged ahead and it looked like we would claim the shield. However, with only a couple minutes remaining Killeevan pressed hard and scored 1-1, with virtually the last kicks of the game, to secure the victory of a final score-line Killeevan 4-8 Rockorry 4-5. After the game I caught up with one of our team managers, Conor Brannigan, and he remarked “I thought the team showed tremendous courage and played some outstanding football during the game. With a bit of luck we could have won the match but unfortunately it didn’t work out that way and congratulations to the Killeevan players on their victory”.
Killeevan Tournament – Under 8
Our under 8 footballers also travelled to Killeevan on Saturday 6th October and played probably their last game of the season and it proved a very enjoyable day for all the kids. The level of enthusiasm and skill was fantastic for such young players, so well done to all involved. Many thanks to the Killeevan club for organising and inviting us to participate in the event and once again special thanks to all the parents who made the journey to support and cheer on the up and coming stars of the club.
