Club Notes 5th February

Annual Social & Presentation Night

Only four more sleeps before the BIGGEST event of the year, our annual social & presentation night, which takes place this Saturday 9th February in the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan.  Our social night is always a fabulous night of fun and friendship and this year will be extra special due to the wonderful efforts and the achievement of our senior team as it brings us all together once again to celebrate the historic achievement winning the Vincent McAviney Cup. These nights only come round once in a lifetime so make sure you get your tickets and experience this memorable night first hand. You never know you may hear a pretty damn good rendition of Andy William’s timely classic “can’t take my eyes of you” being performed by the lads! You’re just too good to be true, I can’t take my eyes off you, you’d be like heaven to touch, I want to hold you so much…(there I go again getting carried away but you just can’t help yourself  with occasions like this!). The night will also include many other highlights including presentations to the latest inductee into our Hall of Fame and awards will also be presented to our senior, reserve and minor players of the year. Admission is by strictly ticket only and cost €25 each and can be purchased from any committee member.  We look forward to meeting you and your friends to join us for one hell of a PARTY! Entertainment will be provided by the fabulous ‘Hit the Floor’. If you are planning to join us in our celebration then please be there early. To ensure the night runs smoothly it is very important to get it started on time and we are appealing to everyone to make a special effort to be in the Hillgrove Hotel at 7pm for dinner being served at 8pm sharp.

Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Billy Carroll who has been chosen as this year’s recipient of our prestigious Hall of Fame award. He may be a native of Ballybay, for the past couple of decades, but during the sixties, seventies and to a small extent the early eighties he was tinted in the green & white. Speaking at the meeting on the announcement of the award club chairman Jimmy McGeough said “The club is delighted and honoured to recognise Billy Carroll’s achievements and his contribution to the club during some difficult and challenging times. It’s a fitting acknowledgment for his involvement and input to the club during those years and I welcome him into our Hall of Fame.” I would like to echo those sentiments and on behalf of the Carroll family in the Rockcorry area extend my congratulations to Billy who indeed is a worthy recipient of this accolade and now joins his brothers, Bosco and Jimmy in our Hall of Fame. I wish him, his wife Rosie and his extended family many more healthy years to enjoy this award. The Hall of Fame presentation will be made to Billy at our annual dinner and presentation night next Saturday 9th February in the Hillgrove Hotel.

Club Memorabilia

In the words of Tom Cruise “show me the photos….SHOW ME THE PHOTOS”. Okay, okay I know he didn’t say those exact words but it was quite similar! Anyway, moving on, I am collecting old photographs in order to compile a catalogue of club memorabilia. I am appealing to everyone within the club and perhaps further afield to please go through your photo albums, those old shoeboxes under your bed or the biscuit tin in your wardrobe and see what you can dig up! I know it’s a big task to dig them up but it’s really important that we make an effort to record all our amazing experiences and the memorable moments of the club. Please be assured that anybody who brings forward their precious memorabilia will be able to bring it back again as I will scan the items digitally and catalogue them. This is your chance to record and be part of the history of the club so please feel free to email me at or contact me on 086-1041165 should you have anything to share with the club. Show me the Photos,

Annual Yearbook 2012 / Final DVD

I want to thank everyone for their kind comments towards last year’s annual yearbook entitled “A Year to Remember”. The response and support is deeply appreciated. Just for your information there are only a couple of these special keepsakes left and like the famous advertisement slogan “when they’re gone…they’re gone and when they’re all gone, they’re definitely gone”. The annual yearbook is available to buy at a reasonable €20  and is jammed with information and features over 300 pages, full colour, and contains some amazing photographs of our historic and remarkable journey to senior football. Furthermore, if you would like to order a copy of the final DVD, Rockcorry v Doohamlet then please  get in touch on 086-1041165 or alternatively send an email to with your details.

Following the GAA’s Annual Congress in April 2012 a new rule was enacted that made it mandatory to use a mouthguard in all Gaelic football matches and training sessions from January 1st 2013 (for all age grades up to and including minor) and at U21 and Adult level from January 1st 2014. I have uploaded an information booklet onto our website for all parents to read and understand the requirements. Please visit and click on the link entitled “MOUTHGUARDS”. Should you require any additional information or need anything clarified please get in touch with any committee member.
