It was a Super, Super Saturday for Monaghan football last weekend and on behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to convey a massive congratulations to both the minor and senior footballers who did the double over our neighbours and arch-rivals Cavan and now advance to the Ulster Final. There was certainly a great atmosphere in Clones and I imagine when we take on the mighty Ulster and All Ireland champions Donegal in a couple of weeks’ time St. Tiernach’s Park will be buzzing! Ticket information has not been published yet but to avoid disappointment any club member looking for tickets for the Ulster Final can you please contact club secretary Martina McKeown as soon as possible. Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 12 Div 2B

Our under 12 footballers returned to action last Saturday 29th June when they played host to Cremartin in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg league competition. The lads battled hard and got off to a very encouraging start and capitalised on a couple of passing errors from Cremartin to put some lovely scores on the board and after a very  entertaining twenty minutes we built up an eleven point lead, leading 3-9 to 1-4 at the midway stage. When the game resumed both sides continued to play some high quality football and traded scores early during the second half. However, as the half unfolded our excellent work-rate was rewarded with a couple of match winning goals as we secured our first victory in the league campaign on a final score-line Rockcorry 6-11 Cremartin 2-8. Overall, this was a very enjoyable game and while we were never behind in the match Cremartin pushed us all the way. Great credit must go to both sets of players for a terrific performance as they all demonstrated great heart and skill throughout the match. Well done boys and girls and keep up the good work. Their next game is on TUESDAY 9th JULY when they travel to play Monaghan Harps at 7.30pm.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 14

The under 14 footballers will be back in action on Saturday 13th July when they entertain Aghabog at 12 noon. All players are reminded that gum-shields are compulsory for training and competitive games.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16 League

Since the beginning of the league campaign the under 16 footballers have endured more than their fair share of shattering disappointments and heart-breaking results. However, when they travelled to play Tyholland last Wednesday 26th June, they secured an unbelievable win on a score-line Tyholland 8-8 Rockcorry 9-7. Maybe it was the glorious sunshine, maybe it was the Wednesday evening match or maybe just the fact they fulfilled their true potential! Whatever the reason they were full value for the win showing great determination and mettle and they truly deserved the spoils. Moving forward this win should provide the lads confidence and will hopefully inspire them to bigger and better things because they are well capable of producing more quality football in the competition. Well done lads and keep up the good work. Their next game in the league campaign is on Thursday 11th July when they host Fergal O’Hanlon’s. The game has a throw-in time of 7.30pm.

Gerry’s Prepared Veg – Under 16 Championship

The under 16 footballers were back in action last Sunday 30th June when they faced a strong Aghabog/Currin amalgamated team in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Championship. The game was played at Pairc Naomh Mhuire in wet, slippery conditions and a strong wind blew directly down the pitch and Aghabog/Currin played with the elements during the first half and pulled no punches as they dominated in all positions and notched up some impressive scores to lead by 6-10 to 0-1 at the half-way stage. When the game resumed the lads displayed tremendous courage, added resilience and more than matched their opponents playing some good football and showed signs of what they are truly capable off with some excellent scores. However, despite playing well during the second period, the Aghabog/Currin outfit was by far the better side on the day and ultimately they romped to a comfortable victory on a score-line Rockcorry 2-8 Aghabog/Currin 8-14.
