Club Notes 20th April 2010

Senior Team

We played our first game of the Intermediate League on Wednesday 14th April against Donaghmoyne. This was a tough game to start the season against a strong Donaghmoyne side and unfortunately we had to settle for second best on the day losing by 0-4 points. Rockcorry 0-11 Donaghmoyne 0-15. Sunday evening last we played Doohamlet and once again the team produced a spirited performance but it was not enough as Doohamlet ran out eventual winners on a score-line 0-9 to 0-7. Nevertheless we can take some positives from these first two outing and we can look forward to better days to come. Please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie for full match reports. This Sunday 25th April we travel to Pairc Emmett to play Aghabog with a 7.00pm throw-in.

Reserve Team

The next outing for our reserve team is on Monday 26th April when they take on Sean McDermott’s at home.

Sponsorship

We are extremely grateful to Pat & Noeleen Fitzpatrick for their recent sponsorship. They have been very generous to provide a set of hoodies and sports bags for our senior and reserve team players. Speaking to Pat & Noeleen at the presentation they stated “they were pleased to sponsor the club and wished the players the very best during 2010”. Under 16 Team

Our under 16 team were beaten by a stronger Tyholland side in Pairc Mhuire last Thursday night. The lads displayed tremendous conviction and spirit over the course of this entertaining game but unfortunately, Tyholland had enough stored away in reserve and finished out the game the strongest to secure victory on a score-line Rockcory 2-8 Tyholland 4-8. The next game for our under 16 team is an away game tonight (Thursday 22nd April) against Emerald Sarsfields at 7.00pm.

Minor Fixtures

Our minor footballers under the management of Pascal Smyth, Jimmy McGeough and Mark McCormick made a good start to the season when they put in a fine performance in their Division 3 league encounter against Tyholland. Tyholland dominated the opening exchanges as they scored two goals and a number of points to open up an early lead. However, as the half unfolded we gradually found our kicking boots and finished the half the strongest to go in at the break leading 2-7 to 2-3. The second half was tit-for-tat but when Tyholland piled on the pressure, the team showed great character and Aaron Clerkin came to the rescue when making a number of point blank saves to deny Tyholland probable match winning scores and the team were able to hold on for the win on a score-line Rockcorry 3-12 Tyholland 2-12. They played Emyvale last Tuesday (20th April), please check club notes next week for match report. Their next game is against Na Mullai Sarsfields in Killeevan on Tuesday 27th April at 7.15pm.
