This week’s club notes will be the last of the year and with the festive season approaching I would like to thank all our club members, club supporters and sponsors for your valued support in what has been a very, very special year for the club. On behalf of my fellow club officers I would like to wish you and your families a very Merry & Peaceful Christmas and a Happy & Prosperous New Year and we look forward to your continued support during 2013.
Be Safe – Keep Safe
Christmas is certainly a busy time of the year with loads of presents to buy and friends to entertain. It is also a joyous time of the year and it is easy to get swept away with all the festivities and excitement. Please keep your friends and family safe this festive season and seriously stay safe and please, please, please do not drink and drive.
Intermediate All-Star Team 2012
A massive well done to Mark Daly, Keith Daly and Noel Carroll who were named as part of the Monaghan Intermediate Championship All-Star team of 2012. The full team can be viewed in the Monaghan GAA Yearbook. Unfortunately, they messed up with the photographs because the photograph above Noel Carroll’s name is that of Keith Daly. However, I took the liberty to do a bit of creative editing and the corrected version can be viewed on our website www.rockcorrygaa.ie.

Committee Positions Vacant
I have always maintained that people are the greatest asset the club can process and their ability to help, aid and support each other is vital for the clubs survival and future development. I cannot over emphasise the level of active participation – whether it is coaching, fund raising or administrating, it is the fundamental cornerstone of the club and in my mind you cannot be half in and half out. You have to be fully committed to the cause. As a club member we have an obligation, we have a duty to ensure that the club remains in healthy state for many generations to come and therefore we can’t afford to just sit around and do nothing and expect others to do it for us. The management committee is open to all who wish to sit on the committee or indeed any of our sub-committee. New faces, new opinions, new ideas are the lifeblood of any club and with your input the possibilities of today can be achieved tomorrow. At our annual general meeting a couple of weeks ago the positions of Cultural Officer and ASAP Officer were not filled. We are now looking to co-opt members to fill these important roles. If any club member is interested in taking up any of these roles or perhaps sitting on the management committee please get in touch. The bottom line folks, and its quit simple, the future of the club is in our own hands. Everything that we do today or indeed everything we don’t do will have a serious impact on the performance of the club in the future. It’s you club, get involved.
Reserve Team Management
The club is currently seeking expressions of interest for the position of reserve team manager / management. If you would like to be considered or would like more information please contact club chairman Jimmy McGeough or any committee member.
I am looking for your inspiration, your thoughts and your ideas on commissioning a club motto. Countries have constitutions, companies have corporate mission statements and some clubs have vision statements, taglines or mottos. So why not us? The definition of a motto is “a phrase meant to describe the general intention of a social group or organisation.” For example “Teamwork makes the dreamwork”, “There is no strength without working together” or “One Parish, One Club”. I believe a club motto can inspire us to take action, to overcome obstacles and help us work together towards a common goal…even in the face of overwhelming opposition. That’s one of the wonderful things about mottos, where anyone can read it and find something within themselves that echoes with their thinking. I would love to hear your perspective thoughts on this topic and with your help over the Christmas Season I am looking to collect your wisdom, your inspiration and insight into putting in place a club motto. Please email me at email@example.com or alternatively simply post a message on our Facebook page.
Senior Citizens Party
In the interest of balance a massive well done to the local Community Alert committee who recently raised money with a sponsored walk for the senior citizens Christmas party. If anyone would like to make a donation towards this event they can contact Gerry Coyle or any committee member on the Rockcorry Community Alert committee.
Club membership is now due once again and can be paid to our club Registrar Pat Brannigan. The annual subscription for adults is €20 with all juveniles under the age of 18 costing €5 and any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €5.
If anybody is interested in representing the club in any of the following events please contact any committee member (Figure Dancing, Recitation, Solo Singing, Instrumental Music, Ballad Group, Novelty Act, Question time and Set Dancing)
Juvenile Presentation Night
The management committee is currently finalising plans for a suitable night to present medals to the victorious under 12 and under 14 footballers. It is expected to take place early in the new year but please watch this space for more details.
Due to a number of unfortunate circumstances the committee has agreed to postpone the Christmas raffle scheduled to take place on Saturday 29th December. The draw for the fabulous suite of bedroom furniture will now be held early in the New Year. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the delay but it was truly outside our control. Lines will remain on sale over the Christmas period and all committee members and players are asked to continue to make a special effort to sell your cards.
Monaghan GAA Yearbook
The official Monaghan GAA yearbook will be available to buy this weekend and once again this year’s publication gives a comprehensive review of all Monaghan GAA activity in 2012, records the fortunes of Monaghan county teams in all codes and recounts the story of the various club championships within the county and is available to buy at €12 each.
