Club Notes 16th October

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League

The senior team played, the intermediate championship winners, Doohamlet last Saturday 13th October, in our last league game before the semi-final stages. In some respects there was a strange and airy feeling to the match with perhaps Doohamlet obviously still in celebration mood after their victory in the McGuigan Builders intermediate championship! However, our primary motivation was a win that would give us second place in the league campaign and significantly home advantage for the semi-final clash and the importance of the occasion contributed to some nervous play but after settling down the lads put up a very workmanlike performance and on this occasion we secured a hard-earned but richly deserved five point win on a score-line Rockcorry 0-15 Doohamlet 0-10. A full match report and a selection of action photographs can be viewed on our website www.rockcorrygaa.ie.

Monaghan Electrical League Semi-Final

This Sunday 21st October our senior team will contest this year’s league semi-final and our opponents will be Donaghmoyne. The game is fixed for Pairc Naomh Mhuire and the match has a throw-in time of 2.30pm. It’s not going to be easy as there is very little between the sides, and all players will need to call on their inner strength of character both physically and mentally if we are to get across the line. On behalf of the club, I would like to wish Jim, Cormac and the lads all the best and appeal to them to leave every ounce of sweat and energy on the pitch. Ohh one last point to remember, never, ever, let them out easy! GOOD LUCK LADS.

Croke Park Visit

Well done to Katie Carroll who visited Croke Park recently as part of the Kellogg’s Dream Day Out. She participated in the under 8 group coaching and skills session mentored by Benny Coulter and she also played a match on the hallow ground and scored a great point. She was one of 50 under 8 footballers picked across the country and she had a great day and enjoyed every minute of it. Well done Katie.

Nursery Presentations

Last Saturday 13th October our juvenile committee held a very enjoyable presentation day where all our nursery players, aged from five to eight received certificates for their efforts and participation at training and Go Games Blitzes throughout the year. There was a great turnout of kids and they had their certificates presented by Gerard O’Brien who along with Karen McKeown, Fintan Larmer and Marian Larmer organised and took charge of weekly coaching sessions with the kids. Our youth officer, Pascal Smyth, addressed all the parents and highlighted the nursery section of the club had a very busy year where the emphasis was on obviously on participation, getting the kids interested in Gaelic Games and making sure the kids have FUN and enjoy themselves. He also drew attention to the important role of the parents and thanked them for their involvement and encouragement and looked forward to their continual support next year. He thanked all the backroom team, Tina Rooney, Ann Lynch, Pheobe Carroll, Ann Carroll and Aaron Clerkin for once again ensuring nobody went home feeling hungry with a delightful spread of food and lovely deserts.
