McGuigan Builders Intermediate Championship
Last Saturday (12th June) we made the short journey to Pairc Emmet, Aghabog to take on Currin in the preliminary round of the McGuigan Builders intermediate football championship and we qualified for the next round of the championship with a showdown against Doohamlet after a powerful, energetic and stylish second half display that saw us score thirteen points as we held Currin to just four in the same period to emerge with a deserved victory on a score-line Rockcorry 0-21 Currin 0-8. Speaking after the game our team manager Tom Daly praised the lads for their gallant performance as “they put their heart and soul into it, but we have to build on this. There’s no point doing it one day and be happy with that, we have to keep performing in every single game”. He was also quick to point out that “nothing has been won yet and everyone must continue to work hard between now and the next round. The championship is now over and we must now concentrate on the league game against Donaghmoyne”. I have to say, if this was the leaving certificate all players would be entitled to an A1 grade for their wholehearted endeavour as they put in a huge effort. Check out www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a full match report and action shots of the Rockcorry v Currin game.
Streamline Coaches Intermediate Football League
Once again well done lads, I hope you enjoyed the moment last Saturday as you have a tough encounter this Saturday 19th June when you travel to play Donaghmoyne in the league competition. The game has an 8.00pm throw-in and all players are requested to be there in plenty of time.
Monaghan Electrical Reserve League Division 4
We travelled to Monaghan on Wednesday 9th June to play Fergal O’Hanlon’s in round 7 of the reserve league competition. While we won by six points we could off and should off won by a much greater margin as at one stage we had a comfortable eleven point lead but we gave away two easy goals that allowed Fergal O’Hanlon’s back into the game. The highlight of the game occurred in the very last minute when Gerard O’Brien turned back the clock as he weaved his way through the Fergal O’Hanlon’s defence turning defenders inside and out before he wrong-footed the goalie to tap the ball into an empty net. For a split second, I thought I was watching the little Argentinean striker Lionel Messi, until Gerard attempted to pull his jersey over his head! The final score Fergal O’Hanlon’s 2-9 Rockcorry 2-15. It must be said that we will face stiffer tests as the league progresses and it is vital that we eliminate mistakes and play as a team. If we can do this and build on our performance we could well be competing at the business end of the league something we are well capable of achieving. Check out www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a full match report of the Fergal O’Hanlon’s v Rockcorry game. Keep up the good work lads.
