Senior Team Management
Jim Clifford will continue in his role as team manager of the senior team after the management committee unanimously decided to let him continue. Jim will be joined by Cormac McFadden who as team selector developed a very good working relationship with Jim during 2012. The management committee are delighted to have the two guys back on board and we remain confident that no stone will be left unturned as they prepare to face one of the biggest challenges to date, playing senior football.
Reserve Team Management
Meanwhile, Gerard O’Brien was also ratified to manage our reserve team. Unfortunately, due to small numbers we have struggled to field a team at this level over the past two seasons but Gerard has outlined that he will do his best to re-establish a strong and vibrant reserve team structure. On behalf of all the committee members I would like to wish both team managers and panel of players all the best for the upcoming year in their endeavours to bring silverware to the club.
Well it’s that time of year again lads, time to brush the old cobwebs off the gear and get back into action to prepare for the upcoming year. The team management has informed me that training will continue on Friday 18th January in St. Mary’s Hall and all players, both senior and reserve, are requested to be ready to start at 7.30pm sharp.
Annual Social & Presentation Night
Our annual social and presentation night is always an exciting and popular night in our calendar and it provides a great opportunity to socialise with family and friends. This year’s event will, without doubt, have that extra touch of “magic” as we celebrate once again the historic achievement of our senior team that won the Vincent McAviney Cup. This night promises to be a fantastic occasion and a night not to be missed so make sure you keep free Saturday 9th February because the Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan will be the place to be. The night will also include many other highlights including presentations to the latest inductee into our Hall of Fame and awards will also be presented to our senior, reserve and minor players of the year. Tickets for the night are now available from any committee member and cost €25 each and admission will be by ticket only. We are aiming to have the dinner served at 8pm sharp so ladies start getting the ol’ glad rags out and the bling-bling on and gentlemen do whatever you have to do because we’re going to paint the town green!

Monaghan Sports Partnership and the Irish Sports Council have linked up with RTE’s ‘Operation Transformation’ Programme to transform the masses – by being part of the ‘Operation Transformation National Walk Day’in Castleblayney on Saturday 19th January at 11am. ‘Operation Transformation’, in partnership with the Irish Heart Foundation, the Irish Sports Council and Local Sports Partnerships, will host a number of walks throughout Ireland on this date. The aim of the walks is to raise awareness of Healthy & Active living while encouraging more people to get more active more often. Last year, over 150 people turned out in Castleblayney for the walk and they are hoping to far exceed those numbers in 2013. Monaghan Sports Partnership has once again chosen the scenic Lough Muckno route around Black Island for the 2013 walk on Saturday 19th January 2013. Walking leaders and participants will meet at 10.30am at the Black Island Bridge – parking is available within the grounds of Lough Muckno and it is just a few metres to the bridge. There will be two walking routes available on the day (depending on numbers). The first will follow a 4km route which is easily achievable by the beginner walker or you can choose the more lengthy 7km route for a slightly more challenging walk. Whichever way it promises to be a beautiful scenic walk for families and friends to enjoy and is the ideal way to kick start off your New Year health plan. Everyone will be able to complete the walk at their own pace. They welcome all ages and abilities along on the day and particularly would like to see families getting involved. The event is ideal for beginners to come out and give it a go. Why not make a start today, and remember no matter what age you are, it is never too late to start exercising. The walk will last approximately 35– 45 minutes, so please dress appropriately. You should wear light warm clothing (don’t forget your hat!) and suitable footwear as some areas may be wet or slightly dirty.
If anyone would like to include anything within the notes please send the details by text (086-1041165) or email firstname.lastname@example.org. All notes must be with me before 9pm on Monday evening.
