Senior Team
The football season commenced yesterday evening (Wednesday 12th April) for our senior team when they took to the field for the first time in the Intermediate League competition against Donaghmoyne. Please check club notes next week for match report. This Sunday 18th April our senior team play Doohamlet at 7.00pm in Cloghan. On Wednesday 21st April they have a home game against Eire Og with a throw-in time of 7.15pm.
Reserve Team
Our reserve team recorded an impressive win over Castleblayney on Wednesday 7th April. All players performed well and worked hard till the end of the game but particularly notable was Mark McGuirk and Coiln Quinn who between them did all the scoring. The final score Castleblayney 1-5 Rockcorry 0-13. Log on to www.rockcorrygaa.ie for full match report. Their next outing is on Monday 26th April when they take on Sean McDermott’s at home.
Team Captains
Paul McKeown has been chosen as team captain of our senior team for the league campaign while Noel Carroll will be team captain during the Championship campaign. With regards to our reserve side Coin Reilly was selected as team captain with Martin Carroll being named as vice-captain. All are passionate young men who have a great work ethic and lead by example on the field and bring a great attitude to the squad. I would like to wish them all the very best of luck in their roles and hopefully they will bring some silverware to the club in 2010.
La Na gClub – Sunday 9th May
Following on from the success of La nag Club in 2009 the GAA plans to celebrate the importance of the club in the community on Sunday May 9th. The theme for this year’s day is the promotion of “Youth through Volunteerism”. The committee is working hard making the final arrangements for the day so please stay tuned for more details.
Go Games Refereeing Course
A refereeing course will take place this Saturday 17th April in Cloghan between 9.15 – 11.15am. The course is for secondary school and third level students. It is important that the club has three representatives attending this course as the Go Games start on Saturday 24th April. Please contact Martina McKeown if you are interested.
Under 8 Coaching
Coaching sessions for all under 8’s continues on Wednesday night’s in St. Mary’s Hall from 6.30 – 7.30pm. All five, six, seven and eight year olds are welcome to attend.
Go Games Blitzes
The under 10 Go Games Blitzes starts on Saturday 24th April in Aughnamullen at 10am. We are in Group 6 along with Aghabog, Aughnamullen, Tyholland, Fergal O’Hanlon’s, Oram, Currin and Blackhill.
Under 12 Team
Our under 12 team have a home game against Fergal O’Hanlon’s this Saturday 17th April with a throw-in time of 12 noon.
Croke Park Activity Day
Vinny O’Brien and Patrick James were the lucky lads who attended the Activity Day held in Croke Park last week. The day involved a series of coaching sessions & games on the hallowed turf and also included a tour of the GAA Museum.
Under 14 Team
The under 14 game against Carrickmacross Emmet’s was cancelled last Saturday due to a number of clubs withdrawing from the Division 4 league. As a result Division 4 and 5 will now be amalgamated. A new fixture list will be issued shortly and the under 14 competition is now scheduled to start on Saturday 24th April.
Under 16 Team
Our under 16 team played their second league game against Latton last Thursday evening. While the team displayed some fine passages of football particularly in the first half it was Latton’s ability to convert possession onto the scoreboard that proved the crucial difference and after playing their hearts out they lost on a score-line Latton 3-11 Rockcorry 1-4. Next up is Tyholland tonight (Thursday 15th April) in Pairc Mhuire at 6.45pm. All players are asked to be in the dressing-rooms no later than 6.15pm.
Minor Fixtures
Our minor team played Tyholland last Tuesday evening. Please check club notes next week for match report. Their next outing is an away game against Emyvale on Tuesday 20th April at 7.30pm.
Well Done
Congratulations to Frank Brady and the Monaghan Hurling team on their great win over Longford last week to claim the National League Division 4 title.
