First of all, on behalf of everyone at the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend a massive well done and congratulations to Colin Walshe & Conor McManus who both picked up All Star Awards at the ceremony last Friday night. It is a great achievement and is the perfect end to a wonderful year. Well done lads…very much deserved. Meanwhile, at a function held last Saturday night the Monaghan ladies were celebrating in style when Grainne McNally, Sharon Courtney, Cora Courtney and Caoimhe Mohan picked up All-Star awards. Congratulations to all the nominees and a massive well done to all for bringing such great honours to our county and to your clubs. We all know that it takes a lot of energy, time and commitment to reach this level of performance and especially to maintain it consistently over a number of campaigns and we admire you for your on-going dedication and thank you for your hard work.
Annual General Meeting
The date for our annual general meeting has been fixed for Thursday 28th November. The annual general meeting is the most important meeting of the year and ALL club members are invited to attend in order to reflect on the last twelve months and to look ahead for the upcoming year. There are many challenges facing the club both on and off the field and one off our biggest challenges is the greater need for more people to get involved. Unfortunately, not enough members are moving into committee / officer roles within the club or helping out which is a sad statistic. This is a serious challenge and one that requires members to get up and do something. The bottom line is that the future of OUR CLUB is in OUR own hands, nobody else’s and as members we have an important role in driving and improving the performance of OUR club. I want the message to be loud and clear for our upcoming Annual General Meeting the club needs new faces, we need new blood on board to bring forward new ideas, new committee members with energy, people with fresh thoughts, workers with different concepts and members with different viewpoints…BE THAT PERSON…GET INVOLVED. Nomination forms have already been circulated to all club members and should be returned to club secretary Martina McKeown before the required date.
Annual Yearbook – ‘Our Journey’
This year’s annual yearbook entitled ‘Our Journey’ will be officially launched at our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 28th November. It is a pictorial account, an album of memories, that is jammed, packed and loaded with information and features 400 pages, full colour, including action shots, team photographs from our underage teams right up to senior level, match reports and other interesting articles on various events. I have always maintained that memories are priceless treasurers that we should cherish forever in our hearts and minds and I hope the selection of images that I have put together for this year’s yearbook will leave a lasting impression on you.
Monaghan GAA Coaching Conference
The 2nd Monaghan Coaching Conference will take place on Saturday the 23rd of November 2013 in a joint venture with Patrician High School and Inver College Carrickmacross. This year the main target is club coaches ranging from u6?s to senior in both football and hurling. With the success of the Monaghan county teams this past summer the Conference is appropriately titled ‘Building on the Success’ with the Keynote Address’ being delivered by two of the men responsible for the success. Malachy O’Rourke (Senior Manager) and Ciaran ‘Dinky’ McBride (Minor Coach 2013). Ryan Porter (Monaghan Senior Fitness/ Strength & Conditioning Coach), Terrence ‘Sambo’ McNaughton (Antrim Hurling) Paul Divilly (Ulster Regional Hurling Development Officer) and the Monaghan Coaching & Games staff will all deliver workshops which focus on a wide range of topics which is sure to have an interest with every gael in county Monaghan and further afield. There is a small fee for attending the Conference (€10 per person Or €30 for 4 club delegates), with each delegate receiving a copy of Coaching Templates, which was designed by Monaghan Coaching and Games Development staff. The Conference is kindly sponsored by Plantium Tanks Ltd. Registration form has to be returned by the 20th of November.
The Scor na nOg semi-finals that will take place in Tullycorbet on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd November and the final is scheduled in Clontibret on Friday 29th November.
It’s that time of year again folks, the time when the Rockcorry & Dartry Community Alert committee will be holding their annual sponsored walk on Saturday 30th November. In the past this has always proved to be both enjoyable and highly successful and the walk is their main fundraising event. This group of dedicated people from the village will get their walking boots on to raise money for the senior citizens Christmas party. Sponsorship cards are currently in circulation and I would urge everyone within the parish and surrounding communities that if you can afford to make a donation then please support them whenever you can.
