Club Notes 10th June

Good Luck

The Ulster Senior Football clash between Monaghan v Tyrone takes place this Sunday 15th June at 2pm in St. Tiernach’s Park, Clones. On behalf of everyone from the Rockcorry GAA club I would like to extend our best wishes and good luck to the team and the team management in their attempts to progress to the next round of the competition. I would urge all our club members and fans to travel to the game, if possible, and get behind the players who did the county so proud last year. Lads you have the ability and the strength to do it, so there’s really only one more thing left to say or indeed roar…COME ON MONAAAAGHAN.

Good Luck Monaghan

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Fixtures

It is either a feast or famine with fixtures and the next couple of weeks fits into the latter category with no games scheduled, which should give the lads ample time to get their injuries sorted! Please note that the closed holiday period is from Wednesday 23rd June to Monday 7th July inclusive, where no fixtures will be scheduled.

Platinum Tanks Reserve League

If games were awarded for effort, commitment and grit then our reserve footballers would have fully deserved the spoils on offer when they played Doohamlet in the Platinum Tanks reserve football league last Wednesday 4th June. The match was action packed and the lads showed plenty of honest endeavour and there were some really great individual battles all over the field. However, as we all know the main objective and aim of the game is to out-score your opponents and two goals during the second half proved vital for Doohamlet as they claimed the victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 1-8 Doohamlet 2-10. A full match report and a selection of action photographs can be viewed on our website at www.rockcorry.ie or visit our Facebook page.

Under 12 Summer League

Our under 12 footballers kick started their Gerry’s Prepared Veg Division 2B league campaign last Saturday 7th June when they travelled to play Corduff. This was a thoroughly entertaining game of football played at a fast pace and intensity and included some wonderful scores from both sets of players. In the end, however, a deadly five minute spell, at the beginning of the second half, that yielded five goals ultimately proved the difference and sealed the win for Corduff. We started the match at a blistering pace and moved the ball swiftly into scoring positions and executed some lovely scores to lead at the half-time stage by six points, Corduff 1-4 Rockcorry 3-4. The second half was completely different as Corduff, aided by a strong breeze, totally controlled the opening exchanges and quickly overturned the six point lead we had built up at the interval into a ten point advantage.  As the game entered the final five minutes the boys and girls put in a wholehearted performance and they managed to kick over some great scores but unfortunately time ran out and when they final whistle sounded Corduff claimed the victory on a final score-line Corduff 6-8 Rockcorry 5-6. Please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie or visit our Facebook page for a selection of action photographs. Their next outing is this Saturday 14th June when they host Clontibret at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 12 noon.

Under 14 Championship

Our under 14 footballers played neighbours Aghabog in the Gerry’s Prepared Veg Under 14 Championship last Thursday 5th June and it was wonderful to see that a local derby match, even at under 14 level, can create a buzz and an interest among both sets of supporters? The game took place at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and there was a great turnout of supporters from both clubs to encourage and cheer of their team. Unfortunately, it was a very tough day at the office for our lads as we struggled to get a foothold in the game and we couldn’t cope with the speed and strength of the Aghabog team who finished clinically and powered their way to a comfortable 3-16 to 6-23 victory and on behalf of the club we wish them all the best in the next round of the competition. Hard luck lads, sometimes you have days when nothing goes right so keep those heads up and keep working hard at training for the league competition.

Under 14 League

The next outing for the under 14 team is on Thursday 3rd July when they host Emerald Sarsfields.

Under 16 Fixtures

With examinations taking centre stage for the next couple of weeks the under 16 competition will now take a break to allow players concentrate and prepare for their exams. The next game is scheduled for Thursday 26th June when they travel to play Scotstown.

Go Games Blitz

Due to a full round of under 12 fixtures taking place this weekend the under 10 Go Games Blitz scheduled for this Saturday 14th June has been postponed and will now take place on Saturday 12th July. Please watch this space for more information. The under 8 players will be back in action on Saturday 21st June when they travel to the Monaghan GAA training grounds located at Cloghan, Annyalla to take part in an All-County blitz and it starts at 9.30am and goes on to 11.30am.

Best Wishes & Get Well Soon

On behalf of everyone at the club I would like to extend our best wishes to Nora Duffy who is currently in hospital at the moment. We wish her a speedy recovery back to full health and hopefully we will see her out and about doing all the things she likes as soon as possible.

Fun Walk / Run

I hope you all have kept Friday 13th June free for this year’s annual 5K/10K walk or jog. The event is being organised by the Parents Association of Scoil Mhuire and hopefully it will be bigger and better than last years. Registration takes place at the school at 6.30pm and refreshments will be served after the event. This is a great opportunity to support the local school and it is open to everyone young and old. It all takes place through the picturesque and scenic surroundings of Dartrey Forest. I am told it will be a great course and it’s all about the taking part and having FUN with fellow parents, neighbours, friends and family etc. So get those runners on and I shall see you at the start line because I might not see you at the finish!!!

Happy Birthday

I would like to take this opportunity to extend a very special Happy Birthday to a wonderful lady, Nell Rooney, who celebrated her 90th birthday last Tuesday 10th June. Nell is a great supporter of the club and on behalf of the club I wish her endless joy of health and happiness and we hope you had a memorable day with your family and friends and may you enjoy many more healthy and happy birthdays to come.
