Our senior team travelled to play the mighty Clontibret in the Drumlin Credit Union senior football league on Wednesday 22nd May and while we were missing key players, namely team captain Keith Daly, Mark Daly, Damien Matthews, Jamie Smith and Garry Calvert through injury, the general consensus from our supporters leaving the grounds was that “it was better than we had expected, but not as good as we had hoped” because after a courageous effort from the lads a better-balanced Clontibret side secured, somewhat a flattering, five point margin on a score-line 0-18 to 3-4.
In fairness, you could not fault the effort or endeavour from the players as they left everything on the pitch and it was a massive improvement from the last time out when effectively the game was lost during the first five minutes! The team management and players can take a lot of heart from this game and with no competitive games for a while it will give all the players with niggling injuries a chance to recover and get prepared for the upcoming championship encounter against Ballybay.
