Rock Sarsfields 1-17 Magheracloone 1-17
The epic battles between Dublin and Meath back in 1991 will always remain one of the most memorable moments of GAA history. The intensity levels each team brought to the occasion was outstanding and will always be talked about. Likewise, when we look back on 2011 we will definitely recall our tough encounters against Magheracloone in the Maguire Transport championship campaign. Because yesterday evening (Tuesday 13th September) our minor team, Rock Sarsfields, played Magheracloone in the semi-final replay and after a sensational game of football it ended honours even (after extra time) and the teams will have to meet for a third time to see who will progress to meet Killanny in the final.
Last night’s encounter was a thrilling contest and could be regarded as a classic because it represented all that is good about GAA games. It had everything from team spirit, staunch defending, glorious high fielding, stubborn tackling, some lovely attacking football and plenty of breath-taking scores all resulted in one hell of a thrilling game.
I have to say, all players, (Magheracloone included) deserve an enormous amount of credit for their effort and determination and for producing such a wonderful game of football. These are two evenly matched sides that went head to head, in a very positive and sporting manner and they have to be applauded for their approach and we look forward to the next outing with great anticipation.
On a final note lads, I know some of you feel aggrieved by the last minute free-kick but you got to remain positive and keep your heads held high and be ready for the next battle. Keep up the good work and the very best of luck to you.
