Our under 14 team played Truagh at Pairc Naomh Mhuire on Saturday 19th May and after a fast, free-flowing and highly entertaining game of football Truagh secured the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 5-12 Truagh 10-15.
Our lads performed very strongly during the first quarter and held their own against a strong Truagh side and after the first fifteen minutes we led by 2-3 to 1-3. However, a very determined Truagh side took the game by the scruff of the neck and turned the game around as they totally dominated the second quarter scoring 4-2 with reply to take a 2-3 to 5-6 lead at the half way stage.
After a strong pep talk the lads showed much improvement and put in a fantastic performance during the third quarter and edged out Truagh by 1-5 to 2-1 to leave the score at 3-8 to 7-7 going into the final period. During the last quarter both teams put some excellent moves together and it was fairly even but towards the end of the game Truagh slotted home a couple of goals to leave the final score Rockcorry 5-12 Truagh 10-15.
There were many positives in this performance and had we taken all the chances on offer during the course of the game we could have been on closer terms. Team manager Felix Granaghan had the bare minimum of players to choose from but all those present gave a good account of themselves against a good Truagh outfit. The next game for the under 14 team is on Saturday 2nd June when they travel to play Carrickmacross B team at 12 noon. Keep up the good work lads.
Team: Ryan Lynch, Mark Duffy, Damien West, Gareth Smith, Vincent O’Brien, Patrick James, Pauric O’Brien, Kyle Brannigan, Gavin West and Caolán McPhillips.
On Saturday morning (19th May) we held a Under 10 Go Games blitz and Pairc Naomh Mhuire was certainly a hive of activity. Teams from Aughnamullen, Clones, Currin, Drumhowan, Tyholland and Rockcorry took part on the day and it was a great couple of hours.
There was a great turnout and all the kids played well with plenty of spirit and showed loads of enthusiasm as they played three games during the two hours. They provided plenty of entertainment for the spectators and they all enjoyed the occasion and well done to all the kids involved.
It was a huge success and great credit is due to everyone involved for organizing the event and many thanks to everyone who travelled to support the kids on the day. Well done.

Corduff 0-10 Rockcorry 1-5
Our senior team travelled to play Corduff in the Monaghan Electrical intermediate football league on Friday 11th May and unfortunately I had a severe case of Déjà vu and found myself humming, or should I say chanting, “Goosefraba, Goosefrba, Goosefraba”, as I made my journey back down the road!!! Despite the pleasant sunshine, which sadly did little to lift everyone’s spirits, the senior team delivered a very slow and sluggish performance while Corduff, on the other hand, showed more hunger and were far more economical and ruthless in front of goals and secured the victory, after an often scrappy encounter, on a score-line Corduff 0-10 Rockcorry 1-5. While we enjoyed our fair share of possession we needlessly gave the ball away and the amount of misplaced passes, unforced errors and indecision at vital times will no doubt give our team management plenty of things to consider! There is still a lot of work to do and improvements will be necessary before we meet them again in the first round of the McGuigan Builders intermediate championship but moving forward every player needs to stand up and be counted if we are to achieve our goals this year. A full match report can be viewed at www.rockcorrygaa.ie along with a selection of action photographs.
Rockcorry 2-16 Sean McDermotts 1-7
The senior team did not have much time to dwell on the previous result because they were back in action on Sunday 13th May when they played Sean McDermott’s at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. After the horror show on Friday night we were hoping they could bounce back with a positive performance and build up some confidence and WOW, I have to say I liked what I saw. With a number of positional switches the team showed tremendous character and thankfully they were a lot more clinical in front of the posts and secured the victory with a whopping twelve point winning margin, which I know sounds ridiculous, but honestly it was a lot more than anyone could have hoped for. It really was a remarkable match, thrillingly brilliant where a scoring blitz, that yielded 2-3 in the space of ten minutes during the first half, proved decisive as they put in a memorable performance to collect the two valuable league points on a final score-line Rockcorry 2-16 Sean McDermotts 1-7. The big beaming smiles on faces after the game told its own story and everyone was delighted to have bagged the two points and indeed the supporters will be relieved that the lads came through what was a serious test. With a crippling injury list aided with a number of players working and studying away the start of this year’s campaign has not been easy. So lads, you have now set a standard for yourselves and it’s up to YOU to keep it up and build on this performance. You have to believe that you our capable of turning things around and the result from this game will hopefully be the spark for greater things to come in this year’s competition? Keep up the good work lads. A full match report can be viewed at www.rockcorrygaa.ie along with a selection of action photographs.

Under 12 Finals Day
Our under 12 team travelled to Cloghan on Saturday 12th May to take on Fergal O’Hanlons in the final of the Spring league competition. The game was played in lovely sunny conditions and while we enjoyed plenty of possession we unfortunately could not convert it onto the scoreboard. On the other hand Fergal O’Hanlons made the most of their chances and secured the victory on a final score-line Rockcorry 0-5 Fergal O’Hanlons 0-10. The game was quite a lively affair and during the first half the team played extremely well and all worked tirelessly throughout the game and at the interval only two points separated the sides Rockcorry 0-4 Fergal O’Hanlons 0-2. However, on the restart we seemed to lose our shape as a physically stronger Fergal O’Hanlons team took control of the game and notched over some lovely scores to convert a two point deficit into a five point victory. This was a wonderful game of football played in good spirits and all the boys and girls put in a great performance and had a very enjoyable day in the sunshine. They were just unlucky not to score a couple more points but that’s the way it goes, as they say! Many thanks to Conor Brannigan and Anthony Lynch for looking after the team and thank you to everyone who made the journey to Cloghan to support and encourage the youngsters. The team on the day was: Aaron Smith, Ryan Lynch, Kyle Brannigan, Conleth Keenan, Curtis Roberts, Gavin West, Darragh Dillon, Pauric O’Brien, Emma McKeown, Shane Greenan, Makayla McDermott and Leon Jones.
