Speedy Recovery

First of all, I would like to extend our best wishes to Simon Calvert who was recently hospitalized following a motorbike accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time and we hope you make a full and speedy recovery.  

Under 12 Shield Final

On football matters, it was a very enjoyable week for our under 12 team and their mentors as they recorded a great win in the final of the Shield competition against Scotstown B team. The final was played last Saturday (28^th May) in Cloghan and our wee brave-hearts played extremely well and displayed some great skills and took some lovely scorers. This was a great team performance against strong opponents and the large crowd of supporters witnessed an excellent game of football and a wonderful exciting finish as we secured the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 0-11 Scotstown B 0-6. Well done to Conor, Anthony, Karen, Sean and all the players for this wonderful achievement. Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Championship

Our reserve team play Fergal O’Hanlon’s tomorrow night Friday 3^rd June in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football Divisions 3 & 4 Championship. The game is fixed for Pairc Naomh Mhuire and throw-in time is 7.30pm.

McGuigan Builders Intermediate Championship

Our championship game against Currin has been fixed for Sunday 12^th June at 1.30pm and will take place at Gavin Duffy Park, Monaghan. The first round of the championship is always a defining moment of the year and we hope a large crowd of supporters will travel and get behind the team for this occasion. If recent league form was any criteria then Currin would be regarded as favorites, as they have already defeated us in the league campaign, but as we all know the championship, as often happens, can turn out to be an entirely different proposition and the lads will need to be focused and be in the right frame of mind for this encounter as it will be a tough and competitive game of football.

June Fixtures

Our senior team will be back in action on Wednesday 15^th June when they travel to play Donaghmoyne in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate football league at 8pm and on Friday 1^st July our senior team has a home game against Sean McDermott’s at 8pm.

USFC Tyrone v Monaghan

Best wishes to the Monaghan senior team who take on Tyrone this Sunday in the Ulster Senior Football Championship Quarter Final. Throw-in time at Healy Park is 3.30pm. Beforehand the Monaghan ladies will play Armagh in the Ulster Ladies Senior Football Championship First Round and throw-in time is at 1.45pm. Hopefully a good crowd will travel to Omagh to shout the lads and girls on. For your information all under 16’s are free into the terrace areas. This is NOT an all ticket game and supporters can pay in at the gate. Family Tickets (Stand) Child (U16) €5/£5, Adult €25/£21, Terrace €15/£13, Covered Stand €27/£23, OAP Terrace €10/£9, OAP Stand €15/£13, Students Terrace €10/£9 (On production of a valid student card).

Hard Luck

Hard luck to the Monaghan minor team who were defeated by Tyrone last Sunday on a score-line Tyrone 0-15 Monaghan 1-5. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the game but according to reports our young players Fergal McGeough (0-1) and Mark McGuirk (1-3) gave an excellent account of themselves and certainly begs the question if only???

GRM Minor Football League Division 2

Football will now take a back seat as players get ready to sit their exams so the next game for the minor team is on Tuesday 28^th June when they travel to play Cuchulains.

Under 16 Team

The next outing for our under 16 team is on Thursday 23^rd June when they play Doohamlet at Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 7.00pm

Under 14 Team

The next outing for our under 14 team is on Saturday 25^th June when they travel to play Tyholland.

Under 8 Coaching

Under 8’s football training continues on Saturday mornings from 10.00am – 11.15am. All five, six, seven and eight year olds are welcome to attend.

The club extends their best wishes to Peter Phillips (Swans Cross) who is competing in the European Powerlifting Championship on the 2^nd June which is being held in Limerick. Peter won the All Ireland title in deadlifting back in March 2011 and ranked highly in the benching category.

Under 12 Team Win Shield Final

It was a very enjoyable week for our under 12 team and their mentors as they recorded a great win in the final of the Shield competition against Scotstown B team. On Friday 3^rd June our reserve team have a home game against Fergal O’Hanlon’s in the Platinum Tanks Crawley Cup (Reserve Championship) at 7.30pm. Hopefully, if we get past the first game the second round will take place on Saturday 18^th June  at 7.30pm.

On Sunday 12^th June our senior team play Currin in the McGuigan Builders Intermediate football championship. The game is fixed for Monaghan at 1.30pm.

Our senior team our back in action on Wednesday 15^th June when they travel to play Donaghmoyne in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate football league at 8pm and on Friday 1^st July our senior team has a home game against Sean McDermott’s at 8pm.

On Tuesday 28th June our minor team travel to play Cuchulains at 8pm.

Under 12 Finals Day

This Saturday 28^th May the Under 12 finals day takes place at the county training grounds located at  Cloghan. The theme of the finals day is RESPECT. There will be twenty-one finals played on the day with the first starting at 10.00am and our encounter against Scotstown B team is scheduled to take place at 2.00pm. All teams must be in Cloghan thirty minutes before the throw-in time. Please note that there will be a €5 charge on the day for all adults, not including team mentors and all proceeds will go towards covering the cost of the day and to the coaching fund. My I take this opportunity to wish Conor, Anthony, Karen, Sean and all the players the very best of luck in their final.

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League

Our senior team bounced back from their disappointing defeat against Tyholland to secure a hard fought but richly deserved one point victory over league leaders Corduff in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate league encounter played at Pairc Naomh Mhuire last Sunday (22^nd May) afternoon. While Corduff started the better team in the first half they met a Rock solid wall in the second half where the entire team worked tirelessly to block and pressurise their opponents denying them any route to goals to emerge with the spoils on a score-line Rockcorry 0-13 Corduff 1-9. A strong breeze favoured Corduff during the first half and they began the game with all guns blazing and opened the scoring after just fifteen seconds when they converted a free-kick. Two minutes later Mark Daly was brought down and he notched over the free-kick himself but shortly afterwards Corduff regained the lead after Keelan Clerkin was harshly penalised for touching the ball on the ground. After six minutes of the contest Liam Connolly was fouled and again Mark Daly fired between the uprights to draw the sides level. Corduff continued their waves of attacks with great authority and slotted over points on the 8^th, 13^th and 17^th minutes to open up a three point gap. Within a minute our third point arrived when midfielder Mark Daly was on the end of a great move when he receive a pass from Garry Calvert and he tapped over a sweet point. On the 20^th minute Noel Carroll made a blistering run through the Corduff defence and when he was dragged to the ground Mark Daly stepped up and converted the free-kick to leave one point separating the sides 0-4 to 0-5. Corduff once again began to get to grips with the game and produced another fine point on the 23^rd minute and two minutes later they broke through our defence to score their goal and they added another point on the 27^th minute to open up a six point advantage 0-4 to 1-7. We responded immediately with a well worked move and when Garry Calvert was hauled down approximately thirty metres from goals Mark Daly once again showed his accuracy and converted the free-kick. Both teams exchanged points just before the interval to leave the half time score Rockcorry 0-6 Corduff 1-8. Those of us that watched the rugby final over the weekend witnessed the Leinster team make a miraculous comeback to win the Heineken Cup. In a similar fashion our lads started the second half full of determination and were like players possessed as all of them worked tigerishly to deny the Corduff players time and room on the ball. As a result of this much improved work-rate we limited Corduff to just a single point in the second half which ultimately came from a pointed free-kick on the 29^th minute. When play resumed Noel Carroll registered our first score a minute after the throw-up to instigate our fight-back. As the half progressed we continued to assert our dominance and a flurry of scores then arrived from Stephen McGuirk 0-3 and Mark Daly 0-1 when they converted free-kicks during the 11^th and 16^th minutes to draw the sides level 0-11 to 1-8. Then two minutes later the crucial breakthrough came when Conor McGeough slipped past his opponent he was fouled in the process and Stephen McGuirk sailed over a fabulous free-kick to take the lead for the first time of the game. We doubled our lead on the 25^th minute when Colin Quinn belted over a point, from approximately thirty metres, with a lovely curling strike. That score left two points between the sides and we were in for a very tense finale as we all know how dangerous a two point lead is! With a minute of normal time remaining Corduff’s only reply was through a converted free-kick on the 29^th minute which left just a point separating the sides but a couple of minutes later we heard the sweet sound of angels singing when the final whistle sounded to emerge victorious on a final score-line Rockcorry 0-13 Corduff 1-9.

Platinum Tanks Reserve League Division 3

Our reserve team  were in action last Wednesday 18^th May,  in the Platinum Tanks, reserve football league and lost out to Clontibret on a score-line 0-6 to 1-12. The first half was evenly contested with both sides picking off some nice scores and by the break Clontibret had a marginal lead 0-4 to 0-5. However, our performance during the second half left a lot to be desired and we had no answer to an impressive Clontibret side that played the better football throughout. Our passing was pitiable, over-elaboration at times and poor shooting conspired to keep the scoring low as we only managed to register two points during the second half. Clontibret on the other hand notched up an impressive 1-7 to leave the final score Rockcorry 0-6 Clontibret 1-12.

 GRM Minor Football League Division 2

On Tuesday 17^th May, our minor team played Sean McDermotts in the GRM minor football league division 2 and despite our best efforts we unfortunately lost out on a score-line Rock Sarsfields 3-10 Sean McDermotts 3-12. Sean McDermotts started brightly and quickly established a 0-3 point lead within the first six minutes. Lorcan Smyth pulled one back from a free-kick on the 11^th minute but Sean McDermotts dominated the following ten minutes and stretched their lead scoring 1-4 without reply to open up a commanding nine point advantage. Mark McGuirk added a point when he converted a free-kick on the 22^nd minute but five minutes later Sean McDermotts hit again when they scored their second goal of the match. A point from play by Mark McGuirk just before the break left the half time score Rock Sarsfields 0-3 Sean McDermotts 2-7. I imagine there was quite a strong pep talk during the interval as the lads took the field determined to reduce the deficit and we got the second half off to an ideal start when Fergal McGeough scored a goal after thirty seconds of play. Sean McDermotts rallied and quickly cancelled this out when they fired over points on the 2^nd, 3^rd and 7^th minutes to maintain a ten point lead 1-3 to 2-10. A minute later Mark McGuirk blasted in our second goal and Christopher Kilpatrick notched over a fine point to close the gap back to six points. However, Sean McDermotts response was instant as thirty or so seconds later we were taking the ball out of our nets as they struck their third goal to keep a healthy lead, leading 2-4 to 3-10. Both teams converted free-kicks on the 14^th and 15^th minutes respectively and further scores from Christopher Kilpatrick on the 18^th minute and Mark McGuirk on the 20^th minute left the scoreboard reading 2-7 to 3-11.  Moments later Sean McDermotts extended their lead when they slotted over a fine point from play, which happened to be their last score of the game. The remaining ten minutes we dominated possession and scores from Gavin Farrelly 0-1, Mark McGuirk 0-1, Christopher Kilpatrick 0-1 and a goal on the 30^th minute we managed to close the gap back to a couple of points. During the closing stages the lads continued to look for that crucial goal but despite their best efforts they were unable to penetrate the Sean McDermotts defence and as the final whistle blew the final score-line was Rock Sarsfields 3-10 Sean McDermotts 3-12. Football will now take a back seat as players get ready to sit their exams so the next game for the minor team is on Tuesday 28^th June when they travel to play Cuchulains.

USFC Tyrone v Monaghan

The Ulster senior football championship game between Tyrone v Monaghan on Sunday 5^th June is NOT an all ticket game. However, tickets are required for the covered stand. There are a limited number of tickets available so if you would like to order a ticket for the covered stand then please contact Martina McKeown before Sunday 29^th May at 4.00pm. When ordering family tickets please state number of adults and children. Tickets cost are covered stand €27, covered stand (senior citizen) €15, covered stand (child) €5, terrace €15, terrace (senior citizen / student) €10, terrace (under 16) FOC.

Monaghan Minors

Best wishes to Mark McGuirk, Fergal McGeough and the entire Monaghan minor team as they take on Tyrone this Sunday in the Ulster Championship. Hopefully a good crowd will travel to Brewtser Park, Enniskillen to shout the team on.

Under 16 Team

Our amalgamated under 16 team, Rock Emmett’s, played Toome last Thursday evening (19^th May and unfortunately they lost the game as Toome proved too strong and were always in control and had plenty to spare by the final whistle. With the league taking a break for the examinations their next outing is on Thursday 23^rd June when they play Doohamlet at Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 7.00pm

Under 14 Team

Our under 14 team were in action last Saturday when they travelled to play Blackhill. This was a repeat of the championship final in which we unfortunately lost by a couple of points but on this occasion the team stepped up to the mark and put in a determined performance to secure the win by the narrowest of margins Blackhill 2-10 Rockcorry 4-5. Played in difficult and slippery underfoot conditions this was a tough and competitive game of football and certainly provided plenty of excitement throughout as very little separated the teams at any one stage. Blackhill enjoyed a slight advantage going into the final quarter leading by a single point but our young warriors never gave up as they battled bravely putting in a tremendous effort to be worthy winners. Overall this was a great team performance starting with Aaron McGorman in goals who made a number of important saves and always found his players with the kick-outs. The backs Mark Duffy, Vincent O’Brien, Laurence McCarthy and Gareth Smith grew into the game and put in a commanding work rate to deny the Blackhill forwards any simple scoring opportunities. The midfield pairing of Andrew McPhillips and Patrick James won plenty of possession and supported their team mates to great effect by using their strength and power to stamp their authority on the game. Up front Padraig O’Brien, James Doody, Morgan Tate-McGeough, Kyle Brannigan and Caolin McPhillips received ample supply and kept their defenders busy with some excellent movement and score taking. I imagine the team management will be very proud of the teams work rate and will be very pleased with their efforts shown during the game. The lads played some wonderful football and no doubt will be delighted to get a win under their belts and let’s hope they can continue this form in their next outing when they travel to take on Tyholland on Saturday 25^th June. So well done lads and remember continue to work hard at training and believe that you are as good as any team in the competition. Believe in your own ability, trust in your team mates ability and continue to work hard for each other and one last thing always, listen to your team management.

Go Games Blitz – Under 10’s

Last Saturday our under 10’s took part in the Go Games Blitzes which was held in Blackhill. There was a great turnout and well done to all the kids involved as they provided plenty of entertainment for the spectators and many thanks to all who travelled and supported the kids on the day.

Corduff Crushed by Rock

This win will have given our team management and players a much needed boost as it came on the back of a disappointing defeat against Tyholland but more significantly we were short a number of regulars, namely Damien Matthews, Paul McKeown, Dwayne Rooney, Jamie Smith, Mark McGuirk and Fergal McGeough. With the Intermediate championship fast approaching this should provide the momentum and motivation to attend training, work hard over the next couple of weeks and be ready to take on Currin. Well done lads.

Our under 14 team were in action last Saturday (21^st May) when they travelled to play Blackhill. This was a repeat of the championship final in which we unfortunately lost by a couple of points but on this occasion the team stepped up to the mark and put in a determined performance to secure the win by the narrowest of margins Blackhill 2-10 Rockcorry 4-5.

Played in difficult and slippery underfoot conditions this was a tough and competitive game of football and certainly provided plenty of excitement throughout as very little separated the teams at any one stage. Blackhill enjoyed a slight advantage going into the final quarter leading by a single point but our young warriors never gave up as they battled bravely putting in a tremendous effort to be worthy winners. Overall this was a great team performance starting with Aaron McGorman in goals who made a number of important saves and always found his players with the kick-outs. The backs Mark Duffy, Vincent O’Brien, Laurence McCarthy and Gareth Smith grew into the game and put in a commanding work rate to deny the Blackhill forwards any simple scoring opportunities. The midfield pairing of Andrew McPhillips and Patrick James won plenty of possession and supported their team mates to great effect by using their strength and power to stamp their authority on the game. Up front Padraig O’Brien, James Doody, Morgan Tate-McGeough, Kyle Brannigan and Caolin McPhillips received ample supply and kept their defenders busy with some excellent movement and score taking.

I imagine the team management will be very proud of the teams work rate and will be very pleased with their efforts shown during the game. The lads played some wonderful football and no doubt will be delighted to get a win under their belts and let’s hope they can continue this form in their next outing when they travel to take on Tyholland on Saturday 25^th June. So well done lads and remember that you are as good as any team in the competition. Believe in your own ability, trust in your team mates ability and continue to work hard for each other and one last thing always listen to your team management. Well done and keep up the good work.
