Under 14 Team Secure Final Spot

Congratulations to our under 14 team on a wonderful performance against Tyholland last Tuesday evening in the semi-final of the Under 14 Championship competition. After a thrilling encounter, in which both teams served up some lovely football, we secured the victory on a score-line Tyholland 5-4 Rockcorry 3-18.

The lads showed plenty of grit and determination and they fully deserved the victory. Lets hope they can repeat the performance in the final against either Drumhowan or Blackhill. Well done lads and keep up the good work.

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League

We have seen a lot of good things from our senior team to date but last Saturday evening against Currin we picked the wrong time and place to produce a very lackluster performance as Currin showed a lot more hunger and appetite right from the throw-in to secure the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 2-5 Currin 0-13. In truth, we were totally outclassed from the first minute and for some odd reason we never looked likely to secure the win. While the scoreboard shows a defeat of a couple of points in reality Currin were much the better team, on the day, and before we meet them again in the preliminary round of the intermediate championship a lot of work will be required.  On a glorious sunny evening a very determined Currin side hit us like a tornado as they owned the ball during the first half and raced into an early lead and they comfortably led by 0-2 to 0-7 at the break. Indeed if they had off converted all their scoring opportunities it could have been very embarrassing as they kicked a lot of wides. When the second half resumed both teams exchanged points and by the 16th minute Currin lead by 0-4 to 0-10 and the game looked beyond reach. However, the lads never gave up and battled bravely and incredibly, two minutes later the game was all square, 2-4 to 0-10, as we scored two quick-fire goals, the first from Garry Calvert and the second from Mark McGuirk. At this stage one would have thought the momentum was with us but Currin showed plenty of grit and determination and responded with three points while we only managed to register another point to leave the final score Rockcorry 2-5 Currin 0-13. Platinum Tanks Reserve League Division 3

Our reserve team played Killeevan last Sunday morning in the reserve league division 3 competition and in some ways this game resembled our senior game the night before! Killeevan started much the brighter side and completely dominated the opening half to lead by five points at the break 0-6 to 0-1. During the second half we showed a lot more determination and when Seamus Carroll was introduced to the game on the 13th minute, his first touch saw him rifle the ball past the Killeevan goal-keeper to close the gap to just a couple of points 0-8 to 1-3. Unfortunately, that proved to be our last score of the game whereas Killeevan added another four points to leave the final score Killeevan 0-12 Rockcorry 1-3. Club Notes 19th April

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League

After the disappointment of losing to Drumhowan, the previous round, we set out to recover some lost ground against Carrickmacross last Sunday 17th April, in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate football league and after producing a stunning second half performance we secured the two league points on a score-line Carrickmacross 0-7  Rockcorry 1-14. The game was played in glorious conditions and Carrickmacross started brightly and completely dominated the opening exchanges and quickly established an early advantage leading by 0-6 to 0-1 after eleven minutes of play. At this stage we were finding it difficult to get into the game but to the lads credit they never gave up and when Mark McGuirk fired over a point on the 12th minute the fight back was started. Further scores from Noel Carroll and Mark Daly, on the 13th & 15th minutes respectively closed the deficit to 0-2 points. Carrickmacross added a point on the 18th minute which proved to be their last score of the game. Mark McGuirk pulled one back on the 22nd minute and Anthony Tate narrowed the gap to a single point on the 26th minute when he slotted between the uprights. With the first half nearly over Stephen McGuirk drew the side’s level when he converted a free-kick to leave both sides on 0-7 points apiece at the interval. When the second half resumed we upped our performance and totally outplayed the opposition and notched up an impressive 1-7 (Mark McGuirk 1-2, Mark Daly 0-3, Dwayne Rooney 0-1, Paul McKeown 0-1) while Carrickmacross failed to raise a white flag to leave the final score Carrickmacross 0-7 Rockcorry 1-14. Well done lads and keep up the good work.

Platinum Tanks Reserve League Fixtures

The next outing for our reserve team is this Sunday 24th April when we travel to play Killeevan at 12 noon. All players are requested to be in the dressingrooms no later than 11.30am.

GRM Minor Football League Division 2

Our amalgamated minor team, Rock Sarsfields, travelled to play Magheracloone, in the GRM minor football league division 2 competition, last Tuesday evening (12th April). Played in perfect conditions, both sides served up a good game of football but unfortunately Magheracloone emerged winners on a score-line 3-11 to 1-7. We opened the scoring on the 2nd minute when Mark McGuirk notched over a fine point but this was quickly cancelled out when Magheracloone converted a free-kick a minute later. Mark McGuirk added another point on the 6th minute and he had a great opportunity to extend our lead when he skipped past his opponent but his shoot at goals was well saved by their goal-keeper. Playing Magheracloone is always a tough and competitive game and when we conceded two goals on the 11th and 12th minutes respectively it made our task nearly impossible. They stretched their lead, on the 15th minute, when they slotted over a point from play to leave the score 2-2 to 0-2 midway through the first half. To the lads credit they fought back and were rewarded for their efforts with a penalty on the 18th minute after Mark McGuirk was hauled down in the large square and Christopher Kilpatrick made no mistake in finishing the ball to the back of the net to cut the deficit to 0-3 points. Both teams exchanged a number of scores during the next passage of play and at the break we trailed by 2-6 to 1-4. On the restart we set about closing the deficit however, we were guilty of wasting too much possession especially in the final third and only managed to add three more points. Magheracloone, in comparison, were a lot more economical in front of the posts and whenever a chance presented itself they were capable of raising a white or a green flag. The final score Magheracloone 3-11 Rock Sarsfields 1-7. On reflection, the game ebbed and flowed from the start and had patches of good quality football from both sides. Conceding the two goals within a minute of each other during the first half ultimately proved the difference between the two sides and left us chasing the game. They were scheduled to play Killanny last Tuesday evening (19th April). Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for all updates. On Tuesday 19th April they have a home game against Killanny with a throw-in time of 7.00pm.
