Our pre-season preparations continued last Sunday when we travelled to Belfast to play Patrick Sarsfields in the Ulster league competition. The lads got off to a dream start when Paul McKeown collected a pass from Dwayne Rooney, raced through the centre of the defence and smashed a blistering shot past the goal-keeper. Patrick Sarsfields responded well however and hit back with a pointed free-kick. A couple of minutes later Paul McKeown was again involved and when he was brought down approximately twenty metres from goals, Dwayne Rooney made no mistake and converted the free-kick to lead by three points after five minute of play. It was now Patrick Sarsfields turn to respond and they duly obliged by slotting over free-kicks on the 13th and 14th minutes and the score at the interval was Patrick Sarsfields 0-3 Rockcorry 1-1.
When play resumed we extended our advantage when Dwayne Rooney fired a spot kick to the back of the net after Anthony Tate was hauled down in the large parallelogram. Shortly afterwards Anthony Tate added a fine point to increase our lead to five points. The next passage of the game Patrick Sarsfields produced their most profitable spell and reduced the deficit back to two points when they scored three unanswered points. At this stage the momentum was firmly with the Belfast side and with ten minutes remaining they looked well positioned for a comeback but the lads had an extra gear and took control of the game and with a sweet move down the field Stephen McGuirk rifled the ball to the net leaving the Patrick Sarsfields goal-keeper with no chance and restored a five point lead. We followed this up with another fine point from Colin Quinn after he was released down the left flank and he did brilliantly to curl over a sublime point to complete the scoring and leave the final score Patrick Sarsfields 0-6 Rockcorry 3-3.

Our parent information & registration night was held on Thursday 24th February in the Resource Centre. The night was organised by our juvenile committee to primarily inform parents about the clubs policies and procedures in respect to underage football competitions.
At the launch our youth officer and chairman of the juvenile committee Paschal Smith highlighted the importance of the club’s Code of Conduct / Code of Best Practice and its implementation by everyone concerned. He gave a brief synopsis off the duties and responsibilities of club officials, mentors, coaches, players and parents and he expressed that the club wants to be known and respected in the County as a club that upholds the ideals of the Gaelic Athletic Association. He said we have always maintained high standards and all individuals in the club including underage players, parents, officials, senior players and spectators should at all times show respect and good behaviour.
He made reference that it was the “Year of the Volunteer” and he appealed to parents to volunteer their services and help out with our juvenile teams. He remarked if people could spare one hour a week on a Saturday morning or one evening per week to help the various coaches this would be a big help and it would be very much appreciated by the club.
On the night a lot of parents attended and handed back the signed declaration form and the juvenile membership forms. If you were not able to attend can you please familiarise yourself with the Code of Conduct / Code of Best Practice and when you have read and fully understood this document please sign the declaration form and return it along with the juvenile membership form accompanied with the €5 fee per child to our youth officer Paschal Smith.

Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for match report and some action photo’s. This Sunday 27th February we are on the road again when we travel to Antrim to take on Patrick Sarsfields.
