When we played Tyholland a couple of week ago in the league campaign they won by two points and on the day we felt we did not give a good account of ourselves and if we were to have any chance of beating them in the championship semi-final we needed to come out with all guns blazing or in this case all shooting boots firing!
However, last Saturday evening when we travelled to Emyvale to meet play them in the semi-final of the the McGuigan Builders Intermediate football championship there was no debating who the better team was on the day as we played second fiddle to a more speedier and slicker Tyholland side as we offered very little to the game and as a result we exit the competition, very tamely it must be said, on a score-line Rockcorry 0-8 Tyholland 1-12.
While seven points may have been the difference on the scoreboard, in truth it should have been a wider margin had Tyholland been more accurate in their point taking. For the most part Tyholland were the hungrier side and the movement and speed of play shown by them was simply too much for us as they battled for every ball and put us under pressure for possession forcing us to make silly mistakes and sloppy passing.
Our attention must now revert back to the league campaign and with a minimum of four games remaining a lot of hard work and sacrifices will be needed to ensure we reach the qualifying stages.
(Full match report to follow shortly).
Our intermediate football league game against Inniskeen will take place on Thursday 16th September at 8pm.
After the disappointing evening the previous night with our minor team losing out against Emyvale it was the turn of our reserve team to lift our spirits and boy they did not disappoint when they took on Killanny last night (Wednesday 8th September) in the league semi-final.
The first half was evenly contested with both sides enjoying good spells and were level at the break 0-6 to 1-3. However, in the second half we upped our performance and our work rate soon began to show as we took control of the game and secured victory on a score-line Rockcorry 2-13 Killanny 1-5.
Our opposition in the final will be Toome which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 14th September at Inniskeen with a throw-in time of 8pm.
Well done lads and the best of luck in the final.
On Tuesday 7th September our minor team made the short journey to Monaghan to play Emyvale in the Division 3 Minor football championship final and on the day they lost out to a better balanced Emyvale side.
Emyvale got off to a great start as they dominated the first half and had a comfortable 0-5 to 1-8 lead at the break. The second half produced some great spells of football from both sides and within ten minutes of the restart Emyvale stretched their lead 0-5 to 1-11. At this stage our lads started to show more spirit and played some wonderful football and closed the gap back to two points 1-9 to 1-11 but it was not enough as Emyvale ran out winners on score-line Rockcorry 2-11 Emyvale 2-14.
The numbers drawn on Monday night were 2, 15, 25, and 27. There was no jackpot winner of €3,600.00.

“Rock Light up the Darkness”
Our senior team lit up a damp and dismal Sunday evening with a very impressive ten-point win over Eire Og to progress to the semi-final stage of this year’s McGuigan Builders Intermediate Football championship. It was clear from the outset that the lads were fired up for this encounter as we dominated most of the play and at the end of the first moiety we had racked up 1-8 to their 0-4 to go in at the interval with a comfortable lead. Two quick-fire goals and a couple of points at the start of the second half opened up a yawning gap of fifteen points that gave our team management the luxury of making a number of substitutions and at the end the final score Rockcorry 3-13 Eire Og 2-6 was announced over the sound system because you could not see the scoreboard due to the darkness, unless off course you brought along your night vision googles!!! It was certainly a thoroughly deserved victory for the lads whose application over the hour was impressive. True, there was an element of good fortune to the two goals scored in the second half but it was no more than what we deserved. However, our victory was somewhat tarnished when team captain Noel Carroll had to be carried off the field with an ankle injury. Let’s hope he makes a speedy recovery. Our prize for winning is a semi-final clash against Tyholland which takes place this Saturday evening (11th September) in Emyvale at 8pm. All club supporters are urged to get behind the team and show your support this weekend. Good luck lads.
