Hall of Fame
The Hall of Fame award (2009) was presented to Peter McKenna at our annual social night held in St. Mary’s Hall on Friday 26th February 2010. Peter made a rich contribution to the administration of the club for many years. He became treasurer of the club in 1979 a position he held for two years. He was joint secretary along with Jimmy Carroll in 1982 and was secretary of the club in 1983, ‘84 and ‘85. He was elected Public Relations Officer in 1988 and 1989. For a couple of years preceding the opening of Naomh Pairc Mhuire Peter devoted much of his time and energy researching matters relating to the issue of the book entitled ‘A History of Rockcorry St. Mary’s’ in “The Emetresse” which was published in 1991 when the club officially opened Naomh Pairc Mhuire. He also managed numerous underage teams and was in charge of the local school team that won the Ollie O’Rourke Cup in 1977. In 1982 he was manager of the under 10 team, otherwise known as the “The Mighty Minnows”, that won the Ballybay tournament beating Tullycorbet in the final. In 1984 he was manager of our under 13 team that captured the McGrane Cup. While not directly involved with the club nowadays he remains a friend and a keen observer in the interests of the club. His contribution towards the club will never be forgotten and the club extends their gratitude for his dedication.
Senior Player of the Year
It was no coincidence that Garry Calvert was awarded the senior player of the year for 2009. A player with enormous ability and unquestioned commitment, his performances throughout the year were both outstanding and consistent. He can adequately adapt to any position on the field but is renowned for his man marking abilities and is usually assigned the job of marking the opposition’s most dangerous forward.
Reserve Player of the Year
The reserve player of the year award went to Cathal Sheridan. Cathal made an instant impact on the full back line of our reserve team during the year. He is renowned for his strength, braveness and determination and will always leave the field of play after giving 110% effort.
Minor Player of the Year
Niall McKeown is one of our emerging young talented players and this was recognised last year when he played on the County Monaghan Minor Team. A hard worker within the side he is renowned for his sharpness and intelligent play which makes him an all round quality player and a worthy recipient of the award.
Thank You
I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of my family to thank the many people for their kindness and good wishes over the past fortnight. I would also like to thank the committee for arranging the guard of honour as a mark of respect to my dad and I extend my appreciation to Paul McCormick for writing the lovely tribute in last week’s notes.

Toome 1-8 Rockcorry 2-3
Our reserve team commenced their league campaign with an away game against Toome last Saturday 6th March. Played in ideal conditions we opened the scoring in the second minute when a shot from Conor McGeough was saved by the Toome goalie but Declan McCullagh was in the right place at the right time to strike the ball to the back of the net. Toome responded with points in the 5th, 12th and 20th minutes to leave the score at the break Toome 0-3 Rockcorry 1-0. During the break team management introduced Cormac McFadden, Barry Patterson and Emmanuel Monaghan for Josh Butler, Shane Wynne and Jude Walls. On the restart, we had the better of the opening exchanges with Jamie Smith tapping over a point from a free kick in the 2nd minute and Keelan Clerkin hitting the back of the net in the 5th minute to open up a four point margin. However, the turning point of the game came moments later when Toome were awarded a penalty and the resulting kick was blasted home. They drew level shortly afterwards when they notched over a point from play. We responded immediately with a point from Liam Connolly after a fine passage of play between Martin Carroll and Keelan Clerkin. Toome then hit three unanswered points during the 15th and 23rd minute to open up a two point margin. We were able to close the deficit to a single point when Colin Quinn tapped over a free kick in the 25th minute after Glenn Calvert was brought down on the 13m line but it was not enough as Toome sent over their final point in the closing stages to leave the final score Toome 1-8 Rockcorry 2-3.

Annual Lotto
The club is inviting people to subscribe to the lotto for the year. This is a great way to make sure you never miss being entered. Forms are available from any committee member or you can download a form from the website.
Club Membership
Club membership closes on 31st March and we would appreciate it if all club members for 2009 could renew their membership and pay the €25 to club registrar Stephen Lynch. All senior and reserve players must have their membership fee paid otherwise you are not covered under the GAA insurance injury scheme. In addition, all underage players should be registered so we would encourage all parents to pay the €5 registration fee.
